Closet and Secondhand Halloween Costume Ideas

If you’re looking to save some money and the planet this Halloween season, consider trying to create your Halloween costume out of things you already own and secondhand purchases. All it takes is a little research into what you want to dress up as for Halloween and a little creativity.

I’m getting most of these ideas that I put on here from Pinterest and some of the graphics that I found are also from Pinterest, if I can find the original creator I will be sure to credit them.

First Combo: Black Shirt and Black Pants

A black shirt and black pants can be a pretty versatile combination that can lead to many costumes. There are of course, the three above, but we can do so much more than just a black cat, a beat poet, and Sandy from Grease.

Some more costumes from this piece:

  • Robber/Burglar
  • Modern Plague Doctor
  • A Shadow
  • The Black Sheep

Second Combo: Plaid Button Up, Boots, and Jeans

I think that almost everyone has a flannel in their wardrobe especially when fall rolls around, and even more pop up in secondhand stores across the nation every year. So put them to use and make a cute costume out of it.

Third Combo: A Pink Dress

I like this idea because it can lead to so many more. You could use a pink dress and become:

  • Modern Sleeping Beauty
  • Princess Peach
  • Buttercup from PowerPuff Girls
  • Barbie

Fourth Combo: LBD

The little black dress is another staple in many women’s wardrobes and is just so versatile.

Some more costumes from this piece:

  • Vampire
  • Morticia Adams (Long dress)
  • Maleficent
  • Bellatrix Lestrange
  • Lady Grim Reaper

Fifth Combo: White Button-Up

If we’ve learned anything so far, it is that neutral pieces of clothing really open up your options for costume ideas.

Some more costumes from this piece:

  • The White Rabbit
  • Secret Agent
  • Han Solo (add a black vest)
  • Mary Poppins (Add skirt, hat and umbrella)
  • A formal apology
